2008 MusicOz Competition- vote for local musician
Cam Nacson
Local musician Cam Nacson has entered some of
his songs in the 2008 MusicOz Competition. This is a music competition
for unsigned local artists and we hope that Lane Cove will get
behind a local talent.
You can login to his profile, read his bio, and listen to his
tracks at www.musicoz.org/camnacson1
The winners in the Prize Categories are decided by a panel of
judges. Cam is entered in the "Schoolies" category.
Cam has written the lyrics, done the vocals, the music, and the
production on these 6 tracks (plus there's another 40-odd tracks
he has also written). Award Winners will be announced in November.
There is also a People's Choice Award where the public can vote

Bands wanted for next Synergy Band Night
If you are a young local band then we want you
to play at our next Synergy Band Night on 21st November. Synergy
runs band nights once each school term and we are always looking
for bands to play. Please email youth@lanecove.nsw.gov.au

Club 114 Jamberoo Bonanza!!!
On the 8th of October, Club 114 is heading down
the coast for a day of fun, sun and splishy splashy, tabogganny,
putt putty adventure! The whole thing, including admission, transport
and food, is only 50 smackeroonies (that's dollars, in fiscal

Synergy is open longer hours in the school holidays
so come on down and check it out. We are open Tuesday- Friday
1-6pm and Saturdays 12-5pm. There is an African drumming workshop,

for a list of events that are happening at the Youth Centre. The
Youth Centre will be closing on Friday 21st December and will
re open on Tuesday 7th January and will run a 3 week holiday program.
The Youth Centre has extended opening hours during this time.
We are open Tuesday - Friday 1.00-6.00pm and Saturday 12.00-5.00pm.
All activities are free except for the Club 114 excursion.

Synergy and the Body Shop are putting on a night
just for girls! Staff from the Body Shop will pamper us with facials,

Young Womens Discussion
Are you, or is anyone you know interested in helping
in a focus group for girls at Synergy Youth Centre? On Wednesday
15th August at 4.30pm we are holding a discussion for young girls
aged 12-20 to come along and have a chat about the youth centre,
what it offers as a service and how it could be improved for young
women. An informal one hour discussion, plus some free pizza and

Lane Cove Superstar

A solo- signing competition for young people 12-20
years. After a process of auditioning, finalists will be notified
and the event will culminate in a final performance in the Lane
Cove Plaza on Saturday 15th September 2007.
Performance workshops and entries close on 11th
August.

Sexual Health Week
The first week of September is Sexual Health Week
(SHW) and we are asking "how you doin'?" to encourage
young people to reflect on and improve their sexual health. This
year the target is young people (16-24 years) with a focus on
healthy sexual relationships.

throughout the week which explore issues relating to sexual health
and young people.

Shoreshocked a success!!
Shoreshocked was held on Saturday 1st April and
was an awesome day. A massive congratulations to all the local
bands and hip hop performers for putting on such an amazing show.
Shihad were fantastic and the crowd were going off! Check out

A big thanks to the Youth Workers at Lane Cove, North Sydney,
Willoughby and Mosman Councils for all your hard work in organising
such a great event. Also thanks sooooo much to the wonderful volunteers
who helped out on the day. The event couldn't happen without you!

“Do you Want to Help Revitalise Lane Cove Village?”
The Lane Cove Alive Project is an exciting Town Centre Revitalisation
project designed to revitalise and enhance the character and amenity
of our Lane Cove Village.
The Project is a partnership of key stakeholders, sharing mutual
aspirations, expertise and resources to reinvigorate and enhance
Lane Cove’s Village Commercial Centre.
The Lane Cove Alive project team seeks expressions of interest
from highly motivated young people wishing to become a member
of a non-profit association known as the Lane Cove Alive Leadership
Group.
If you are an enthusiastic and dedicated team player with a strong
sense of commitment to Lane Cove, we invite your interest. If
you have had some experience, particularly on the executive of
an organisation, management committees, boards or would like to,
the Lane Cove Alive project team invites your application.
This is a voluntary role. The Lane Cove Leadership Group consists
of:
• 4 community/residents/representatives
• 4 business/commercial/property representatives/operators
• 1 youth under the age of 21
• The General Manager of Lane Cove Council or his nominee
A Coordinator will manage the project under the direction of
the Lane Cove Alive Leadership Group. Applications close 22nd

Youth LEAD on again 3 - 5th March
Youth LEAD is an award winning national youth
environmental leadership and social enterprise training program
for 15-25 year olds, developed and run by Oz GREEN. The program
involves a three-day residential workshop, follow up youth network
meetings and ongoing mentoring and support for youth projects.
Outcomes will include practical positive projects that are youth
driven solutions to issues of concern to young people and enhancement
of the Youth LEAD network, both locally and nationally.

National Youth Week. (We run Shoreshocked during Youth Week, in
case you didn't know). There is an online survey for young people
to complete to help the government understand your views about
National Youth Week. It's confidential and there are prizes such
as iTunes, Music Store vouchers and CDs to be won. Us Youth Workers
will also be having our say about Youth Week.
